Chandler AZ First Birthday Photography
When your birthday falls around the 5th of May, a Cinco de Mayo celebration is perfectly fitting! This sweet little guy turned uno this week and I loved photographing the festivities. It was a HOT and blustery day, but still the perfect setting for a special first birthday party. Mama decided ahead of time that she wanted to enjoy her little guy’s big day, and their friends and family, and left the photographing to me. I love working with special events, big and small. Birthday parties, anniversaries, engagements, retirement and holiday parties, it is always so fun to be a fly on the wall documenting your special day, and you get to be IN the photos instead of behind the camera!
A couple of weeks before the big day, Mama had also planned for a cake smash and portrait session. As you can see, little one was not a fan of the cake! Cake smash sessions are SO much fun, and I work to make them as easy as possible on both you and baby. I bring my mobile studio right to your home, and when the novelty wears off and baby is done, you can head straight for the bath while I handle the clean up! Cake smash photos make awesome birthday invitations, thank you notes and favor gifts as well, be sure to book your cake smash session about a month before party day if you plan to use those precious shots for the party. You can check out more of his cake smash session over here!
Child Crisis AZ Fundraising Event at the Clayton House Scottsdale
Cake, cocktails, and a fabulous design your own jewelry bar by the one and only Kendra Scott… I mean, what more can a girl want, am I right? All made even sweeter by the fact that all of the proceeds benefit kids in need. This weekend I spent the afternoon with the incredible staff from Child Crisis Arizona at the brand-spanking new Clayton House in Scottsdale, helping to raise money for the amazing programs they provide for families and kids right here in Phoenix. Guests at Cake, Cocktails, and Kendra enjoyed delish goodies from Sprinkles cupcakes, Wildflower Bread Company, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, a mouth watering appetizer spread by Clayton House catering, were treated to hair and makeup by a variety of awesome stylists, and had the chance to buy some beautiful new Kendra Scott pieces, and even win them! The hit of the afternoon was definitely the cake walk. I have to admit, I had a major blonde moment and totally thought that the prizes were cake, but they were actually gorgeous Kendra Scott pieces which 15 lucky cake walkers got to take home. The Clayton House was the perfect setting, with its indoor/outdoor patio, huge bar, beautiful bright and airy ballroom with tons of natural light, and super friendly staff.
Child Crisis Arizona provides emergency shelter, foster care, adoption, counseling, early education, home visitation and parenting support services to Arizona’s most vulnerable children and families. Their mission is to provide children with a safe environment, free from abuse and neglect, by creating strong, successful families. Be sure to check out their website to see all of the amazing work they do, get involved by becoming a volunteer yourself, or watch their calendar for the next fabulous event!

Meet Taylor. This beautiful, sweet, funny, brave little girl is battling a rare form of childhood cancer. Taylor’s dream was to be a singer, and over the past few weeks Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire made that wish come true! You can read the full story on Taylor’s wish in Parenting OC Magazine – where she was on the April cover!
This past weekend, I had the special honor of being Taylor’s personal paparazzi and photographing her Wish Party, a culmination and celebration of all of the incredible experiences that were granted as part of her wish. Her day started with getting glammed up by her personal glam squad at Tress Apothecary and Salon in Newport Beach. From there the star climbed into a stretch limo and headed to her party for a red carpet arrival. Dozens of her friends and family came out to Boathouse Collective to celebrate Taylor, hear her newly recorded singles, and get their own signed copies of her CD and magazine cover. After an AH-mazing lunch, guests got their groove on, made silly faces in the photo booth, and then joined in singing Happy Wish Day to Taylor. Perfect ending to a perfect celebration!
In addition to the staff at Make-A-Wish who work tirelessly for these very deserving children every day, and all of the vendors who volunteered their time and services to make this day complete, Taylor had two very special people who made it all possible. Wish granters are incredibly generous, kind people with a huge heart who do what it takes to make a child’s wish come true. I caught Taylor’s wish granters absolutely beaming several times during her party, their hearts must have been so full knowing what a difference they made in the life of this little girl!
Ok, so you know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. So let’s get on to the photos! Keep on scrolling for a quick little highlight reel with some behind the scenes video, followed by some of my favorite captures of the day.

One perfect evening this past November, over 200 of the most giving, compassionate people in Orange County came together to celebrate the good work of, and raise money for, Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire. The annual Evening of Wishes gala benefits Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. This year the gala raised an astounding $240,000!
Guests kicked off the evening under the stars on the patio of the always beautiful Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, bidding at the silent auction, enjoying delicious goodies and drinks, hamming it up in the photo booth courtesy of Photoboothless, and delighting in impressive entertainment provided by the very talented Danny Magic. The real party began when guests were escorted into the Grand Ballroom for a dinner of Seared Filet Mignon and Crab Crusted Barramundi. Shortly after dinner was served by the amazing staff at the Balboa Bay Resort, the evening’s program began with presentations of gratitude to three incredible sponsors of Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire, Mackenzie Corporation, Disneyland Resort, and presenting sponsor Jones Lang LaSalle. Guests also battled over some fabulous getaways including Hawaii, Telluride and the Magic Castle during the live auction, and danced the night away to the soulful tunes of Haute Chili. Black Starr & Frost was on hand with a dazzling raffle prize for one very lucky guest. The highlight of the evening, however, was seeing every guest in the ballroom take part in a surprise wish reveal for wish kid Francheska, who wished to go to Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii. During the reveal, the lively hula troupe, Lokelani’s Rhythm of the Islands, delighted the audience with authentic Hawaiian dancing. The entire evening was inspiring and humbling, and I am so grateful to have been just a small part of it!
Since 1983, Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire has granted more than 5000 wishes to seriously ill children. To get involved, attend next year’s gala, or to refer a child, head on over to www.ocie.wish.org.
