One perfect evening this past November, over 200 of the most giving, compassionate people in Orange County came together to celebrate the good work of, and raise money for, Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire. The annual Evening of Wishes gala benefits Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. This year the gala raised an astounding $240,000!
Guests kicked off the evening under the stars on the patio of the always beautiful Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, bidding at the silent auction, enjoying delicious goodies and drinks, hamming it up in the photo booth courtesy of Photoboothless, and delighting in impressive entertainment provided by the very talented Danny Magic. The real party began when guests were escorted into the Grand Ballroom for a dinner of Seared Filet Mignon and Crab Crusted Barramundi. Shortly after dinner was served by the amazing staff at the Balboa Bay Resort, the evening’s program began with presentations of gratitude to three incredible sponsors of Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire, Mackenzie Corporation, Disneyland Resort, and presenting sponsor Jones Lang LaSalle. Guests also battled over some fabulous getaways including Hawaii, Telluride and the Magic Castle during the live auction, and danced the night away to the soulful tunes of Haute Chili. Black Starr & Frost was on hand with a dazzling raffle prize for one very lucky guest. The highlight of the evening, however, was seeing every guest in the ballroom take part in a surprise wish reveal for wish kid Francheska, who wished to go to Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii. During the reveal, the lively hula troupe, Lokelani’s Rhythm of the Islands, delighted the audience with authentic Hawaiian dancing. The entire evening was inspiring and humbling, and I am so grateful to have been just a small part of it!
Since 1983, Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire has granted more than 5000 wishes to seriously ill children. To get involved, attend next year’s gala, or to refer a child, head on over to www.ocie.wish.org.
